Opening Day! Baseball ⚾️ Preview ⚾️
Seems a little weird as we’re still freezing our asses off and they’re calling for snow on Easter Sunday, but one of the best days of the year has finally arrived!
Opening Day!
The 27-Time World Champion Greatest Franchise in the History of Organized American Sports is ready to hammer one baseball after another over the left-field Wall, into the monuments, into the black, and opposite field into the short porch at the cathedral known as Yankee Stadium.
Can Judge and Stanton threaten the 115 that Maris & Mantle hit in ‘61?
Here we go!
N.L. East:
The Nationals have one last chance before Bryce Harper gets a half-a-billion in free agency. They’ll win the division easily. The hapless Mets, and the pathetic Phillies are going to be runner-ups, and the Braves are young and coming. Sorry, Larry. Not this year. Jeter and the Marlins will lose 100.
Nationals
N.L. Central:
The Cubs will win it although I remain unconvinced that they’re great. Yu Darvish got $140 million...glad the Yankees didn’t go there. The Cards always win at least 85 (somehow), the Brewers are interesting and the Pirates are bottoming out again. The Reds Suck, but Votto is on my fantasy team so at least I’ll root for him.
Cubs win and Brewers get a wild card.
N.L. West:
The Dodgers are going to be good, but so are the Rockies and Diamondbacks. A lot of people think the Giants can go from 74 wins to 90. Not me. Chase Headley is one of the best Padres so that should tell you how good they’ll be.
Dodgers and Rockies are wild card.
A.L. East:
Judge and Stanton won’t get to 115 but they’ll get over 100 and throw in Sanchez and Didi with 60 more and the Yankees will bludgeon their way to first, but they can pitch too. Their starters were 4th best last year and their bullpen is so good that if Andrew Miller came back he’d be the mop-up guy.
The Red Sux will be good, and their payroll is the highest in the game. They sign 1 or 2 $150 million dollars a year...evil empire.
The Orioles are Counting On Cashner, Cobb and Tillman, and the Blow Jays and Rays will stink.
Yankees and Red Sux eke out a wild card.
A.L. Central:
Someone has to win the worst division in professional sports. The Twins are mediocre, but the Royals, Tigers and White Sux are all tanking. So, that leaves the Indians, fresh off choking in the playoffs against the Yankees. They’ll pile up wins against minor league competition in their division and they’ll get all sorts of accolades...and they’ll get bounced again. 1948 is a long time ago.
Indians
A.L. West:
Poor Robinson Cano. He gave up the playoffs for all that money. They have zero chance again. Houston is good. They won the World Series after getting by the young Yankees by the skin of their teeth last year. I’m not sure the best team won. They will this year. Let’s give Trout a wild card game and hope he homers 3 times off of Sale.
Astros and Angels as wild card.
I have the N.L. Championship as a matchup between the Nats and the Dodgers.
In the A.L. We have a rematch: Yankees against the Astros.
Neither World Series team from last year will be back.
I got Yankees versus Nationals.
And next year when I’m writing this it will change just a little:
I’ll be talking about the 28-Time World Champion Greatest Franchise in the History of Organized American Sports.
Yankees in 5.
