Wrong Guy

Amber Guyger shot Botham Jean to death.

She claimed that she feared for her life.

Even though she entered his apartment where he was seated on his living room couch eating a bowl of ice cream. Amber claimed that she entered the wrong apartment by mistake and then was trembling in fear because she thought he was an intruder.

He was black. She is a white police officer who was off-duty.

Thankfully the jury didn’t buy her story and found her guilty of murder, but man...

...she only got ten years.

Will probably be out way before that. She’ll resume her life at 41 years old at the most.

What a damn shame.

Yet, here we are.

Couple of questions:

1). You don’t recognize that you aren’t in your own apartment?

2). How do you confuse a man eating ice cream as a man who is attacking you?

Now, I heard that there may have been other factors, including a rumor of a beef between the two. Let’s for the sake of argument, believe that she is telling the truth.

You know why she shot him to death instead of backing out of the apartment and calling the cops to report the ice cream eating burglar?

Because she had a gun handy.

This is one of my big arguments about guns.

There are so many in the hands of so many who are too willing to Fire first and ask questions later.

She was a cop!

She should’ve had other tools in her de-escalation belt.

The race is a factor, possibly.

Yet, fights these days are settled with one between the eyes.

Kathy watches a lot of ID television and it drives me crazy, actually...

...one murder after another.

Death sold as entertainment.

Husband shoots a wife, wife shoots a husband, father shoots a friend, kids shoot one another by accident after finding a gun unattended.

All those former responsible gun owners up on murder charges.

Read a story awhile ago about a really young child shooting himself to death after finding his Mom’s cute, little gun in her purse after she ran to the toilet.

“A horrible accident!” The kid’s family cried.

That isn’t an ‘accident.’

Neither is entering the wrong apartment and gunning down a man eating ice cream.

It’s irresponsible handling of a firearm.

Ugh.

Guns.

Too many in the wrong hands.

Hard to tell the good guys (or gals) with a gun...

...because too often...

...they shouldn’t have one.

Guess there’s no way to check their qualifications, right?
