Neutral Corners

Back when we were kids we’d have a fight or two and our parents would break us up and separate us.

We’d be forced to cool down.

We were stronger when we got back together. The differences settled.

In any long marriage there are moments of disagreement.

Retreating to neutral corners is a grand idea.

The left-right division in our country is devoid of compromise and there’s no movement at all.

It’s why there are such horrible fights, even though we can all agree that something as horrible as a school shooting should never happen.

That’s all that we can seemingly agree on.

After that it all goes to hell.

It’s exactly why the president can sit with grieving children...

...and 48 hours later lead a chant that protects gun rights.

Do you know that there are people who despise the hurting children who are marching for change?

It’s subtle, but the fear of having gun rights compromised has resulted in some people bashing those thoughtful children.

No one listens to the other side.

We don’t understand the opposite viewpoint at all.

It’s a constant fight.

There appears to be a lack of parenting going on. Everyone digs in, thought of compromised be damned, and in the end, we are powerless to address any of it.

My own personal answer is to shut it down.

I delete the posts that I find most offensive.

I’ve stopped trying to change anyone’s mind.

It’s tiresome.

Sometimes when my brother was beating the hell out of me I was kinda hoping that Mom or Dad would intervene.

Are there any adults around?
