Everyone Gets A Gun

I texted a wise friend of mine:

Me: These kids are really going to make a difference in this gun debate.

Him: LOL. Pollyanna. You never learn. 💰 Money!

On Tuesday night, Florida failed to even garner enough votes to schedule a day to talk about possibly, maybe, eventually, kicking around the idea of perhaps not allowing people to buy AR-15’s.

The vote wasn’t even close!

They can’t even schedule a discussion on it!!

On Wednesday evening I returned home to see my wife seated on the couch, with tears in her eyes, as she watched the gun discussion in front of the president.

“At least he’s listening,” she said. “This is Breaking my heart.”

How could it not?

“These kids are going to make it change.”

I thought of my conversation with my wise friend.

“I hope so,” I said, “But the continued sale of guns is important to those in charge.”

And the first words I heard from Trump...

...was a floating of an idea.

Arming teachers. Putting armed security guards all over the place.

“More guns.”

To the credit of the event, there were discussions. A Sandy Hook Mom immediately shot down the idea in the most respectful of voices.

“Can you imagine the substitute teacher trying to figure out how to work the regular teacher’s glock?”

More guns is the answer????

Hopefully the discussions will continue and somehow, someway a consensus will be reached to eliminate this.

Blaming mental health and cutting funds to treat people with mental health problems doesn’t make sense either.

Those with mental health problems have zero access to healthcare and crazy access to powerful, powerful weaponry.

Money for school security measures?

Those measures are drastically shortchanged in the proposed budget.

It would cost about $1.6 billion to give each teacher a gun and training.

Will that happen?

Do you remember your teachers?

I remember mine...

...can’t think of one of them that would have been great in a shootout with a crazed, depressed, suicidal man who is dressed in armor and armed to the teeth.

“We can use veterans!”

Again, highly skeptical, but perhaps, huh?

Veterans have some huge problems of their own. PTSD. Drug and alcohol dependency. No work, no healthcare, no homes.

Let’s arm them.

So, we will change the world.

Kids will sit at their desks, staring at the gun that their teachers will have in holsters, like Hoss Cartwright.

Maybe we can televise the shootouts.

Sell ad-time.

Donate the extra cash to the NRA.

That’s a billion-dollar idea, huh?

A little fantastical?

Oh, wise one?

Does that generate enough money to work?
