Pete Rose Should Be Banned

This argument drives me crazy.

Yes, Pete Rose was the hit leader and deserves to be in the Hall of Fame based on his playing career, but there's more to it than that.

He is banned from being involved in baseball because he BET ON BASEBALL AND HE ACCEPTED THE LIFETIME BAN.

Rose lied and then lied a little more and then lied a lot after that.

I suppose that is what you do when you're caught, but through the years he has let out a little bit more of the truth each time that he has been cornered.

He recently explained that he bet on every single game that he managed when working as the Reds field manager.

He was betting on games that he had major influence in.

He throws ten grand against the team and then he puts a stiff on the mound.

That is conduct unworthy of greatness.

O.J. Simpson belongs in the football Hall of Fame as well, based on his in-game performance, but I am a strong opponent of those who don't want to kick him out based on the fact that he cut the heads off of two people.

He is not a Hall of Famer!

He doesn't belong on the Buffalo Bills Ring of Honor!

Baseball has a lot of Hall of Fame Players who are still alive.

They vote on who joins their club.

They don't want Rose in there with them.

They won't let Bonds or Clemens or A-Rod in.

They better not let David Ortiz in when he retires either.

And the argument that you always here is:

"Ty Cobb was a mad racist and a bad guy."

Well...

...kick him out too.

The Hall of Fame is about being great for your sport.

Don Mattingly was my all-time favorite player. He had 5 to 7 great years...Hall-worthy years...but he will not get in because he was merely good after that.

I'm okay with it! Even though he's a great guy and was an exceptional teammate and captain.

Those who are elected to the Hall should be the greatest of the great.

Put the criminals in another wing.

Pete Rose:

All-time hits leader. He lied. He cheated. He disgraced the sport and then lied about it some more. When asked to apologize to the game, he told more lies. He was a singles-hitting, hustling, great player who lied and cheated and compromised the game for years and years.

Is he okay with that summation?

Then put him in.

But please...

...enough about it.

Tired of hearing it!

My Buddy, Dave

Way back in 1997, I started working with a steel erection company out of Syracuse. I was coming straight from a long stint with a steel erector here in Buffalo so I knew my stuff when it came to steel erection safety rules. On day one, I met with the safety director and he was just getting started as a safety guy, but man, he certainly cared about the guys he worked with. Dave was a good man from the start. Mom & Ollie

 Ollie Stadium is a mess. The heavy rains rendered the backyard a mud pit and even though we threw in the side yard, the Big O was looking for more, and we were both covered in mud. I had to take some steam out of him somehow so I suggested we go visit Grandma. Ollie hates the car, but he laid quietly as we made the trip. We even brought the football because there is plenty of room to play at Grandma’s. Mom opened the door and started laughing. I thought about the love she had for every single dog we ever had. Oliver was quick to give my Mom a kiss, and then he stood beside her. The love between Mom and Dogs is a mutual bond. Through the years, Mom would make breakfast for the dogs.  Fried eggs, toast, bacon… She would wrap Christmas gifts for them. “To Jeter, Love Santa,” she would write on the cards. They played with the big chicken that made a lot of noise. Mom tossed the football and Ollie brought it back to her. As the visit drew to a close I headed for the door.  “C’mon, Oliver,”
