Historic Indictment
As crazy as it seems I can recall my Dad’s reaction to Gerald Ford pardoning Nixon some 48 years ago.
“He shouldn’t get away with it,” Dad said. “He ain’t no better than the rest of us.”
That entered my mind when the big news came down. As of now the indictment is sealed but the word is that there are 34 items that are identified all stemming from the hush money paid to a porn star related to cheating affair.
Just an unbelievable story for a former president.
And of course, it’s a witch hunt and the perpetual victim is being targeted because…
…blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Many Republicans are decrying the indictment as a political game, and are threatening a civil war of sorts.
I didn’t get all excited when I heard the news.
Of all the crimes he’s committed this one actually seems to be pretty tame, but he should certainly be held to account.
“If they can do it to me they can do it to any American!” He screamed in bold letters.
Yeah.
Those are the rules.
Break the law, face the consequences.
Too often, for rich people, that isn’t what happens.
And more than anything else, I had one other thought that just kept creeping back to the front of my mind.
“Aren’t people sick of this dude?”
I can’t fathom why there’s love and adoration for the dude.
Has anyone ever seen him do something for someone else that was even remotely kind?
Consider it?
A tender moment with his wife or child or a pet?
A compassionate word or speech that made you stop and say:
“God, what a good guy!”
The man has been in the spotlight for about fifty years…
…there isn’t a single heart-warming story.
He’s the victim. Everyone is out to get him. None of it is fair!
Rage, hate, jealousy, misery.
It’s all he brings to the table.
So, yeah, it’s historic.
A former president faces criminal charges.
This is how the judge should sentence him…
…just two words of instruction…
…”GO AWAY!”
That should be the penalty.
Just go away.
We can all move on.
