And Then There's This

Listen, I'm a baseball fan...probably one of the more passionate baseball fans in the world, but man, this made me cringe:

In Calgary, a man died early Sunday because he disagreed with another man about the Blue Jays' pitching staff.

According to the Calgary Herald, Brian Ludwig was arguing with another man about the Blue Jays' pitchers. The two decided to "take it outside" and as their fight was winding down, a third person came in and threw what witnesses called a "sucker punch."

Ludwig was hit on the back of the head and taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the report. An autopsy revealed the cause of death was blunt force trauma. Scott Robert Hooser, 27, has been charged with manslaughter.

Alcohol, of course, was involved.


You see, I have a healthy give and take with a bunch of Red Sux fans, a couple of clueless Mets fans, and even fans of the hapless Phillies, and oh yeah, don't forget the World Series patsies, the Atlanta Braves and those perennial losers the Cubs.

But I never got overly angry with any of them, even when the 27-Time-World-Champion- Greatest-Franchise-in-the-history-of-sports-New York Yankees lost.

What the hell could they have been arguing about anyway?

The Blow Jays are in last place.

Their pitching staff blows.

Why were the men fighting?

Any who ha...

The Yankees have been playing like the Phillies lately, but I still wouldn't fight anyone over it.

Even if they were as bad the Red Sux

Or as painful to watch as the New York Mess.

How can anyone be a fan of the Braves with that chop going on all game long?

Truthfully, that might make me fight.

And I don't wanna' hear anything from Pittsburgh or Baltimore either.

This is the first time either of those cities has seen baseball in about 25 years.

My Buddy, Dave

Way back in 1997, I started working with a steel erection company out of Syracuse. I was coming straight from a long stint with a steel erector here in Buffalo so I knew my stuff when it came to steel erection safety rules. On day one, I met with the safety director and he was just getting started as a safety guy, but man, he certainly cared about the guys he worked with. Dave was a good man from the start. Mom & Ollie

 Ollie Stadium is a mess. The heavy rains rendered the backyard a mud pit and even though we threw in the side yard, the Big O was looking for more, and we were both covered in mud. I had to take some steam out of him somehow so I suggested we go visit Grandma. Ollie hates the car, but he laid quietly as we made the trip. We even brought the football because there is plenty of room to play at Grandma’s. Mom opened the door and started laughing. I thought about the love she had for every single dog we ever had. Oliver was quick to give my Mom a kiss, and then he stood beside her. The love between Mom and Dogs is a mutual bond. Through the years, Mom would make breakfast for the dogs.  Fried eggs, toast, bacon… She would wrap Christmas gifts for them. “To Jeter, Love Santa,” she would write on the cards. They played with the big chicken that made a lot of noise. Mom tossed the football and Ollie brought it back to her. As the visit drew to a close I headed for the door.  “C’mon, Oliver,”
