Seriously Messed Up

I like Elijah Cummings.

I find him to be a voice of reason, and he cuts through the bull crap when he speaks. He’s the real guy who tells it like it is...

...as opposed to the guy who gets credit for telling it like it is as he lies about everything.

Someone should take the phone away from Trump on Saturday mornings because his ‘telling it like it is’ is blatantly racist lately.

He called West Baltimore ‘infested’ and said that no human being wants to live there.

In fact, he blasted all of Baltimore in a long-winded rant.

I lived in Baltimore for about ten months.

Had a blast.

My cousins live down there. My sister and a couple of my college buddies call the area around Baltimore home.

It’s a city that is rich in tradition, and the people are good and the food ain’t bad.

Of course there are bad neighborhoods...

...there are bad neighborhoods in every city in the land.

But there are most certainly human beings living in Cummings district.

People who work, love their families, and their country.

Infested?

A strange choice of words, but of course, social media took the time to dig into it.

Trump has used ‘infested’ in his tweets a number of times...

...each time it was used to describe people who are either black or brown.

Not to mention that the president is supposed to represent everyone...

...if there are problems in West Baltimore the leaders must work to include those people...

...not disparage them.

Yet, arguably racist tweets three weekends in a row can’t be a mistake.

It’s a strategy.

Victor Blackwell of CNN was born and raised in West Baltimore. He did a commentary on Trump’s words about Cummings and the people who live in the area.

By the end of it, Blackwell was fighting back tears.

“Why does he keep doing that?” Jake asked me.

Jake and Sam love hip-hop music.

Jake often plays songs to me.

“He does it because he believes that black men are less than him, in every way.”

Jake laughed.

“That’s seriously messed up,” he said.

Yes.

It is.
