D.B. of the Week - Doug Marrone

One of the greatest compliments I ever heard about Yankee great Don Mattingly was in the simple way that he treated everyone he knew while he was having a string of MVP years.

A clubhouse attendant said that he once saw Mattingly emptying the garbage cans in the clubhouse. The guy was horrified because it was his job and he thought he'd get in trouble for not emptying the can on time.

"You work hard," Mattingly told the guy. "I can empty the garbage too."

Put that against the stories that are coming out about the former Buffalo Bills coach - Doug Marrone - who is our easy choice for D.B. of the week.

"Selfish, greedy and self-centered," one guy said.

"He belittled everyone," said another.

"Everyone was sick of his miserable personality," said a third.

And it doesn't help that he was the coach of two teams that joined the list of the 13 Bills teams before his tenure in not making the playoffs.

Nope.

The real sin was that he was a D.B. all the way through his tenure and he quit.

Don't even think about the "smart" move he made by taking $4 million free dollars that the Bills were dumb enough to grant him as a parting gift.

He quit on his players.

He gave up on the job that he set out to do.

He tried to get a long extension from a franchise in transition.

And I don't blame him for that, I guess...

...it's sort of expected from a guy who is:

Greedy.

Selfish

and Self-Centered.

You really have to be a D.B. if a guy calls you selfish and then backs it up with self-centered.

So.

Goodbye, Doug Moron (as his Wikipedia page now says after being hacked).

Buffalo hates you.

(You did win the prestigious D.B. Award though).

Don Mattingly would be disgusted.

My Buddy, Dave

Way back in 1997, I started working with a steel erection company out of Syracuse. I was coming straight from a long stint with a steel erector here in Buffalo so I knew my stuff when it came to steel erection safety rules. On day one, I met with the safety director and he was just getting started as a safety guy, but man, he certainly cared about the guys he worked with. Dave was a good man from the start. He’d say things like: “You’re so full of beans.” Just a down to earth, hardworking guy who became a fast friend. We drove all around New York State setting up jobs. Mom & Ollie

 Ollie Stadium is a mess. The heavy rains rendered the backyard a mud pit and even though we threw in the side yard, the Big O was looking for more, and we were both covered in mud. I had to take some steam out of him somehow so I suggested we go visit Grandma. Ollie hates the car, but he laid quietly as we made the trip. We even brought the football because there is plenty of room to play at Grandma’s. Mom opened the door and started laughing. I thought about the love she had for every single dog we ever had. Oliver was quick to give my Mom a kiss, and then he stood beside her. The love between Mom and Dogs is a mutual bond. Through the years, Mom would make breakfast for the dogs.  Fried eggs, toast, bacon… She would wrap Christmas gifts for them. “To Jeter, Love Santa,” she would write on the cards.
