Go Sweden!!!

So, the crazy patriotic crowd was rooting for Sweden in the Women’s soccer game against the USA.

After the USA lost, a whole bunch of crazy remarks hit social media.

I saw a post by Jerry Falwell who blamed the loss on players on the team being ‘Woke’.

You know who chimed in saying that being woke is for losers.

It’s a soccer game!

They lost to Sweden! The most ‘woke’ country in the freaking world.

And of course, it’s all so ridiculous. The team was a disappointment because they freaking lost!

So, why are they hated?

Because some members of the team knelt during the national anthem.

Others were vocal in support of the gay community.

And for that support, and because of their protests, they have been vilified.

Americans were openly rooting against the American team.

It shouldn’t surprise me.

I’ve seen people wearing shirts in support of Putin over Democrats.

There was a response to Falwell’s post that made me laugh out loud because Falwell cited ‘Christian’ principles to send out his hate speech.

“Dude,” one man wrote, “Jesus was the most ‘woke’ man ever!”

Yet, the Jesus that the GOP follows is not the one that is depicted in the Bible.

He wasn’t hateful, or intolerant, or full of rage. He didn’t hate the poor. 

He wasn’t a gun-toting, white guy.

And here’s a revelation for you:

God doesn’t choose the winner of sporting events…

…even if you kneel for racial equality.

I certainly have never understood those who decide who gets to protest and who doesn’t.

Here’s the rub:

The people actively rooting against their own country were doing so because the women of the team supposedly disrespected their own country.

Don’t they do the math on such a hypocritical stance?

My Buddy, Dave

Way back in 1997, I started working with a steel erection company out of Syracuse. I was coming straight from a long stint with a steel erector here in Buffalo so I knew my stuff when it came to steel erection safety rules. On day one, I met with the safety director and he was just getting started as a safety guy, but man, he certainly cared about the guys he worked with. Dave was a good man from the start. Mom & Ollie

 Ollie Stadium is a mess. The heavy rains rendered the backyard a mud pit and even though we threw in the side yard, the Big O was looking for more, and we were both covered in mud. I had to take some steam out of him somehow so I suggested we go visit Grandma. Ollie hates the car, but he laid quietly as we made the trip. We even brought the football because there is plenty of room to play at Grandma’s. Mom opened the door and started laughing. I thought about the love she had for every single dog we ever had. Oliver was quick to give my Mom a kiss, and then he stood beside her. The love between Mom and Dogs is a mutual bond. Through the years, Mom would make breakfast for the dogs.  Fried eggs, toast, bacon… She would wrap Christmas gifts for them. “To Jeter, Love Santa,” she would write on the cards.
