Spreading the Fear

So, do you have Ebola yet?

From what I hear it's a foregone conclusion that we're all going to get it, so why not just crumple up now?

There are people out there who truly are trying to spread the fear and if you don't think so just flip on the news.

You'd think that right now it's a disease that is affecting millions here.

And I'm not downplaying it at all.

It sounds absolutely horrible.

But it isn't out of control in the United States, isn't it?

You'd honestly think it was.

I saw a note over the weekend that said 'more people have married Kim Kardashian than have contracted Ebola in the United States.'

If that truly is the case than we aren't in panic mode yet, right? (I'd be more afraid of Kim at this point).

But why I'm so afraid of the disease, is because it is going to truly incite fear into those who are vulnerable to those sorts of things.

There are people all over this great land who fear:

1). Our Own Government

2). The End Times

3). Black People

4). Gay People

5). People Coming For Their Guns

And a lot of other things.

As I type these words there are people hunkered down with the scope of their rifles aiming for the end of their own driveways as they consider how they're gonna' blast their way out when trouble comes a calling.

And now here comes Ebola sauntering down the street.

Grab your gas masks, folks.

But, again, not downplaying it.

Those who are in positions of leadership must be smarter about it and that certainly includes those who are supposedly quarantined for being in contact.

You're one of the nurses involved and you have to go on a fast-food run?

You know you've been exposed and you need to sit down on a Cleveland-bound plane?

And one other question...

...why is it America's problem each and every time?

We hear about people hating Americans, but when the poop hits the fan...

Can America help?

We will help.

We will get it under control.

I'm confident of both of those facts.

So control the fear.

Right?

My Buddy, Dave

Way back in 1997, I started working with a steel erection company out of Syracuse. I was coming straight from a long stint with a steel erector here in Buffalo so I knew my stuff when it came to steel erection safety rules. On day one, I met with the safety director and he was just getting started as a safety guy, but man, he certainly cared about the guys he worked with. Dave was a good man from the start. He’d say things like: “You’re so full of beans.” Just a down to earth, hardworking guy who became a fast friend. We drove all around New York State setting up jobs. I always let Dave drive so that I could rest. Mom & Ollie

 Ollie Stadium is a mess. The heavy rains rendered the backyard a mud pit and even though we threw in the side yard, the Big O was looking for more, and we were both covered in mud. I had to take some steam out of him somehow so I suggested we go visit Grandma. Ollie hates the car, but he laid quietly as we made the trip. We even brought the football because there is plenty of room to play at Grandma’s. Mom opened the door and started laughing. I thought about the love she had for every single dog we ever had. Oliver was quick to give my Mom a kiss, and then he stood beside her. The love between Mom and Dogs is a mutual bond. Through the years, Mom would make breakfast for the dogs.  Fried eggs, toast, bacon… She would wrap Christmas gifts for them. “To Jeter, Love Santa,” she would write on the cards. They played with the big chicken that made a lot of noise. Mom tossed the football and Ollie brought it back to her. As the visit drew to a close I headed for the door.  “C’mon, Oliver,”
