Smarten Up People!

Howard Stern has a couple of guys who walk the street and ask questions of the public. Usually, it's great radio, and worth a few laughs. Sometimes it's downright disturbing.

Today they were talking about the oil spill. They asked which body of water was affected.

Do you believe that most people didn't know? One guy mentioned the Indian Ocean.

Are you serious? How can there be a healthy debate about anything in this country? Shouldn't there be a qualification test that we all have to pass just to have the ability to walk around upright?

And there comes a time when I'm left talking to some of these people and debating the issues.

Now, I'm no freaking genius. In fact, I'm downright ignorant when it comes to a lot of things. There is more that I don't know then what I do know, but for God's sake!

"What country borders the US to the South?" Letterman once asked.

No one could come up with it so he added a hint.

---i-c-o. was the hint.

Do you know that there was more than one person who wrote TEXICO.

The country that borders us on the south is Texico? Really? That isn't even how it's spelled. Are they called Texicans?

I'm not saying that everyone needs to be a Rhodes Scholar. Some of the most intelligent, thoughtful people in the world live in grass huts in a country you've never even heard of, but walking around here in America, with an opportunity to change policy, vote, and live free isn't there a responsibility to learn a little bit?

Ah well, whatever, right?

I just think that you'd learn a little just by rolling out of bed in the morning.

"Who's the Vice-President of the United States?" The Howard team asked one middle-aged woman.

"Dan Quayle," she answered.

Dan Freaking Quayle isn't even dumb enough to answer Dan Quayle.

Human wheels spin 'round and 'round. Help the light to my face.

My Buddy, Dave

Way back in 1997, I started working with a steel erection company out of Syracuse. I was coming straight from a long stint with a steel erector here in Buffalo so I knew my stuff when it came to steel erection safety rules. On day one, I met with the safety director and he was just getting started as a safety guy, but man, he certainly cared about the guys he worked with. Dave was a good man from the start. He’d say things like: “You’re so full of beans.” Just a down to earth, hardworking guy who became a fast friend. We drove all around New York State setting up jobs. I always let Dave drive so that I could rest. Mom & Ollie

 Ollie Stadium is a mess. The heavy rains rendered the backyard a mud pit and even though we threw in the side yard, the Big O was looking for more, and we were both covered in mud. I had to take some steam out of him somehow so I suggested we go visit Grandma. Ollie hates the car, but he laid quietly as we made the trip. We even brought the football because there is plenty of room to play at Grandma’s. Mom opened the door and started laughing. I thought about the love she had for every single dog we ever had. Oliver was quick to give my Mom a kiss, and then he stood beside her. The love between Mom and Dogs is a mutual bond. Through the years, Mom would make breakfast for the dogs.  Fried eggs, toast, bacon… She would wrap Christmas gifts for them. “To Jeter, Love Santa,” she would write on the cards. They played with the big chicken that made a lot of noise. Mom tossed the football and Ollie brought it back to her. As the visit drew to a close I headed for the door.  “C’mon, Oliver,”
