Whatever Works

I love Larry David - he's a comic genius. I also love Woody Allen movies - and despite what he did with his adopted daughter, I also consider him a genius. So, of course, when their movie was one of my choices, I jumped at it.

The monologue that David does at the start is worth the investment of time. He plays a negative genius who thinks life is a colossal waste of time. I laughed my ass off.

And Whatever Works was his mantra to make it through life's ups and downs although how well it works is up for debate - he jumps out a window twice.

Yet there were disturbing aspects to his personality - the OCD, the waking up in the middle of the night. The daily rants about how everyone is wrong and he's always right.

Reminded me of someone, not sure who.

In any regard, a movie worth watching. He calls everyone he meets an imbecile, which is just a classic word and one that makes me laugh each time. How can you be so condescending?

Imbecile.

Try it today on someone who aggravates you.

It's bound to make you smile.

Just don't jump out any windows when love doesn't seem to come around for you.

I've got seasons 1-5 (can't find season 2 - I think it's around here somewhere) of Curb Your Enthusiasm on DVD if you would like them. I, personally, can't stand Larry David, but Matt loved him. Let me know if you're interested and I'll be happy to send them to you!

I can still hear the opening music to that show... Matt used to laugh because as soon as I'd hear it, I'd groan and roll my eyes. Then I'd end up humming it later because it was stuck in my head, which resulted in more laughter from Matt. I love those memories!

I'm with Andrea on Woody Allen... I can stomach him for about 30 seconds before changing the channel... Larry David isn't as bad... whatever works, I guess.

My Buddy, Dave

Way back in 1997, I started working with a steel erection company out of Syracuse. I was coming straight from a long stint with a steel erector here in Buffalo so I knew my stuff when it came to steel erection safety rules. On day one, I met with the safety director and he was just getting started as a safety guy, but man, he certainly cared about the guys he worked with. Dave was a good man from the start. Mom & Ollie

 Ollie Stadium is a mess. The heavy rains rendered the backyard a mud pit and even though we threw in the side yard, the Big O was looking for more, and we were both covered in mud. I had to take some steam out of him somehow so I suggested we go visit Grandma. Ollie hates the car, but he laid quietly as we made the trip. We even brought the football because there is plenty of room to play at Grandma’s. Mom opened the door and started laughing. I thought about the love she had for every single dog we ever had. Oliver was quick to give my Mom a kiss, and then he stood beside her. The love between Mom and Dogs is a mutual bond. Through the years, Mom would make breakfast for the dogs.  Fried eggs, toast, bacon… She would wrap Christmas gifts for them. “To Jeter, Love Santa,” she would write on the cards.
