Prop Bets

The sports betting thing is crazy to me.

I’ve never once put $ on a game through one of the betting sites even though I get a lot of emails offering me free money to bet with.

We do have a couple of people who enjoy betting on certain things. Last week, Kathy said:

“I bet $10 with the chance to win $150. Here’s what has to happen….”

Then she listed six different wagers on everything from the over to how many yards the starting QB would throw for and who might score the first touchdown.

She was spitting out facts about Christian McCaffery.

During the game she was telling me that the 49ers were “plus two-fifty” when they were down.

“I have no idea what that means,” I said.

A little while later, her and Sam were going over all of it, and Sam gave her some of his insight.

Kathy actually won the bet.

I did mention, at one point, that gambling was akin to giving away your hard-earned money and hoping it comes back.

“It’s $10 dollars!”

There are people out there betting so much more.

There was a report that on one play earlier in the season, where Mahomes went out of bounds instead of scoring, that $80 million changed hands.

The amount wagered since 2018 - on football alone - is measured by BILLIONS.

In one of the sports shows, they were going over the prop bets.

You can bet on the coin flip, of course, but they will also take action on what color of Gatorade will be poured over the winning coach’s head.

Rushing yards, receiving yards, number of timeouts.

Years and years ago a bunch of players were tossed out of the league because the powers to be in the NFL wanted to be sure that no one doubted that the outcome of the game was above reproach.

Now the NFL and Vegas appear to be partners.

People are seriously questioning whether or not the results are rigged.

(In full disclosure, it has crossed my mind).

I’m thinking the Gatorade will be orange, but I sure as hell won’t be betting it…

…as for the game, it’ll probably be a nail-biter. The line is set at one and a half…

…the folks who pick those lines are remarkably good at it.

28-27 wouldn’t surprise me.

They’ll figure out a way to make it work.
