One Year Anniversary
Tomorrow is the anniversary of the Capitol attack.
There are people serving jail time.
There are families mourning loved ones.
There are members of the police force still suffering with long-term disabilities.
And there is a select committee investigating all of it.
A horrible dark stain on our democracy and it certainly should not be swept under the rug. I’m kind of unsure why the investigation is taking so long, or why they are announcing things as if they discovered some amazing truths.
The crowd that day knew exactly how to get in.
Some of the guards simply stepped aside.
The guy in charge at the time did absolutely nothing to stop it.
Even when people were being beaten.
What has surprised me since?
A large portion of America isn’t horrified by what happened that day.
Those Americans weren’t defending the country. They were attacking it, based on a lie.
Men fought to persevere Democracy. How many lost their lives in the world wars and all the wars since.
It was all in an effort to preserve the American way of life.
What might have happened had those officers not been able to slow the attack?
Pence would’ve been hung?
Pelosi too?
And the election would’ve been overturned?
Was that the desired result?
Overthrowing a free and fair election?
An authoritarian take-over?
I’m not sure how stable the ground is under our feet, but I do know what the flag stands for…
…and it has nothing to do with that attack.
I don’t even want to watch the clips of it.
Dark, dark day…
…and damn right people should be held accountable.
