No Control
There was so much nervousness leading up to the Bills game.
For the boys, my friends, Kathy and everyone everywhere throughout the area.
There’s not a damn thing that anyone can do to control what happens out there.
Just angst.
And there was a living and dying on every single play. It even started with the first game and the entire football world rooting against Tom Brady so he doesn’t make it back to another super bowl.
I enjoyed the day because the games were close and well-played.
The refs did their usual dance, but what can be done?
Obviously they can’t ref the game and it changes from game to game.
The NFL could fix it if they want. They’re still using a chain to measure for first downs.
And the Bills look good on the national stage. They’re going to be in the mix for a lot of years because it’s a quarterback league and they have a big, strong, athletic kid who seems like a good guy.
But winning and losing isn’t the end of the world.
Reggie Jackson once said something about “the entire world” talking about him after he hit the three World Series home runs.
“There are a billion people in China who don’t give a sh*t,” Billy Martin said when he heard about it.
So, I watched the Bucs and the Rams and then the Bills and the Chiefs and I just sort of took a few deep breaths.
They’re all BIG games.
It’s not life and death.
In fact, there are a billion people in China who don’t give a sh*t.
