Breaking Point

This week has truly been perhaps the most unsettling of all the weeks of my life.

I’ve always been an optimistic person and one who stays present in the moment.

It’s been so difficult to do so because right now everything that we know to be true is out the window.

1). The Jacob Blake unrest. Once more a black man is shot in the back. Coming on top of the George Floyd murder and about a half dozen other similar murders. It was certainly going to escalate.

“Why can’t they just comply?” One man asked me.

“The penalty for not complying is death?” I asked.

2). The aftermath.

Of course there we’re going to be protests. Unfortunately those protests bring rioters and looters. That’s wrong too.

The fact that the rioting and looting brought a group of people who felt emboldened to fight all of it is the twist that we didn’t need, but the division is being stoked by a complete lack of national leadership.

We can’t survive without laws.

3). Which brings me to the election.

Back in the George Bush re-election campaign one of his staffers noted that they could not use a fax machine on White House property because it was against the laws of a political campaign.

On Thursday night, there was a political rally on the south lawn.

Taxpayers paid for it.

For one of the participants in the upcoming election.

This is dictatorship crap, people.

It’s against all the rules that the forefathers established.

There was a huge collective sigh.

4). Dual hurricanes and more storms of the century hammered Louisiana and Texas.

Fires raged in Northern California.

We are no longer participating in climate change discussions despite all the evidence to the contrary.

5). Russia, Russia, Russia

More information came out about the Trump campaign ties with Russia.

Kushner has a secret communication set up.

There’s talk about voting machines being hacked.

It is well known that they will interfere again.

There were Russian bounties placed on the heads of American troops.

And still not one word of reprimand from our government.

Russia is controlling us and has been since January of 2017.

6). The NBA, MLB, NHL and NFL along with the WNBA and tennis and golf stars are all protesting.

So are actors, singers and nearly every celebrity known to man.

Are they all wrong?

7). The pandemic.

About 1,100 people a day are still dying of Covid-19.

Every day.

Word creeped out yesterday that testing and tracing and isolating are all going by the wayside.

“Everyone is gonna’ get it,” a spokesman said.

Herd mentality appears to be the play.

Which science believes will cost us about 2.5 million Americans.

How does anyone look at all of this and think:

“This country is on the right path!”

“I think we need 4 more years of this!”

4 more minutes of it seems like 3 too many minutes to me.

Something has to give...

...or this whole democracy is over.

And that’s me staying in the present.
