Reality Star Living

There’s a pretty interesting, detailed essay about the rise of Trump as a president due to the reality star existence that we’ve been living for quite some time.

There was a lot of attention given to the Apprentice show, which was a scripted, produced show designed to portray the Donald as a leader, and a powerful man.

Raise your hand if you never saw an episode.

I hope I’m not the only one with my hand raised.

Yet, there has been an absolute mess of a discussion about Facebook and their involvement with Russia during the election.

Ads were sold to people who were working hard to directly sway people who already in hate with a candidate.

Professional writers took a great deal of time in composing fake stories. Then those who benefitted from fake news looked at what is actually news reporting and yelled, “Fake!”

A lot of it seems to be water under a collapsing bridge, but this is our world now.

How will we handle this moving forward?

When there are shows masquerading as news...

...spreading provable lies...

...to a public that is hungry to digest it....

...how can we actually get a true message to the members of our democratic nation.

One of the stories that gets to me every time is about money that was returned to Iran during the Obama presidency.

The fiction is that it was some sort of payment from Obama to Iran because he was actually a Muslim  who hated America.

The truth of the matter (which can be easily googled) is that it was their money.

It was returned, with interest from the time of the Iran hostage crisis back in the 70’s.

The money had been frozen.

Was returned.

Yet, there’s a section of the population that refuses to let it go...

...and the lie only grows because it is sold across the social media platforms by memes, fake stories, and tweets by some who have zero conscience.

I once tried to explain it to someone who was spreading the false narrative.

“I don’t believe that,” the guy replied.

I attached a link.

“Just read this,” I said.

“I don’t read any of that stuff!” He answered.

That was the end of our conversation.

He should have just answered:

“I honestly don’t care what true. I want to make my own reality.”

And that’s exactly where we are.

The reality is that the number of illegal immigrants entering the country has declined steadily over the last ten years.

No one believes that...

...because the false narrative has been repeated constantly.

There’s a reason why “No Collusion” has been a rallying cry.

It’s being repeated over and over and over again so that someone else will pick up the talking point and run with it.

Almost as if it’s a script.

We have to get a handle on it, as a society, so we can figure out what is actually true again.

We can’t just blow off the lies.

There needs to be accountability.

This isn’t Hollywood.

It’s our country.

And we’re currently in the battle for its soul.

Reading true stories might actually allow us to make informed decisions instead of being fooled by garbage.
