Never Forget
I spent some time last night watching the documentary, ‘The Captain’ about the incomparable Derek Jeter, and the episode was covering the year 2001.
We all know what happened in 2001.
At least I think we remember September 11th.
We should never forget.
And it was all in the backdrop of the news of the day.
Espionage. Treason. Nuclear secrets.
Search warrants. Russia. Saudi Arabia.
I felt a tremendous sadness that it has come to this when it shouldn’t have.
I thought about the ramifications of what might happen a year from now, three years from now, ten years from now if those secrets have been exposed.
One man and one party and a whole bunch of people put us in a position to face that awful moment in time again.
Never forget?
And people waving flags and speaking of patriotism while they allowed an absolute menace to run wild.
I don’t know how to feel right now.
Go back in this blog.
I lost some readers because of political discourse, but back in 2015 in the lead up to the presidential election I questioned whether or not we were toying with a Russian asset.
In the seven years since, I have had zero doubts that it was or is indeed the truth.
America is still in a lot of trouble here.
Historic trouble.
But here’s the deal.
Back in 2001 there was unity immediately following the devastation of that horrible September morning.
For a while there we were all Americans.
It was all of us against the horror of those deaths and the people responsible.
Did we forget?
Saudi Arabia was hosted at a golf tournament in New Jersey - that happened just a few short weeks ago.
An ex-president who was all about division since taking the ride down the escalator had his resort searched.
The results are grim.
An unprecedented time.
Will we survive?
Will there be accountability?
Will we remember not to forget?
Hopefully we unite again.
And just as we did back then…
…we battle.
We extinguish the threat.
Go back and watch the video of the towers coming down.
Then think about the fact that a person in power abused authority and possibly exposed nuclear secrets.
Sad.
Never forget.
