D.B. of the Week: Curt Schilling

Curt Schilling is not working with ESPN for a while.

Seems he was suspended for a tweet that featured Hitler in salute and compared the Muslims to the Nazi's by saying that 7% of Germans were Nazi's and that now 5-10% of Muslims are extremists.

Curt, Curt, Curt.

About 6 months ago Schilling jumped on a group of kids who savagely attacked his daughter...

...on Twitter.

Schilling went all over the world then and played the part of a hero because he said that people shouldn't be allowed to sit behind a keyboard and randomly spread hatred.

The media fawned all over Schilling on that one because he was (for one of the only times in his life) right!

And then he went on Twitter...

...and spread hatred.

Curt has earned the D.B. of the Week honors!

Schilling is a very opinionated man but it seems as if he really acts without thinking and he doesn't seem to get the idea that he too is spreading hatred.

He has certainly alienated everyone in and out of baseball with his opinions and while he is certainly free to post what he wants...he must be ready for the consequences.

What did Schilling want for those kids who posted absolutely vile tweets about his daughter?

Jail time!

He got a couple of the kids fired from their jobs.

He vowed to get them thrown out of their schools!

"We can't have this!!" he cried.

Yet what did Curt actually fall into?

The tweet that he sent out was actually historically inaccurate.

History suggests that about 35% of Germans were followers of Hitler and that less than 1% of Muslims are actually extremists now.

That is the danger of the social media world.

People will pass along a photo of something that appears to favor their side, with stats to boot...and the photo may not even be accurate.

I recall a nun, back in grammar school, telling us that headlines can be made to seem what we want them to see. This nun explained to me that there was a horse race in Russia.

The American horse beat the Russian horse in a two-horse race.

"The newspapers in Russia, the next day, said: 'Russian horse finishes second; American horse finishes second to last.'"

I always remembered that example.

I beg my kids to question things that they read.

If they take a hard stand on something, I give them the other side.

It infuriates my beautiful wife that we are all arguing all the time...but perhaps it will keep them from someday garnering D.B. of the Week Honors:

Right, Curt?

We need to stop the spread of hatred on Twitter!
