I'm Okay...Really, I Am

About ten years ago George Steinbrenner was being interviewed and he said:

"I want the Yankees to win every day because we have a lot of fans and they have better days if we win."

I remember hearing that and thinking:

You know what, Uncle Georgie is right. We do feel better when they win.

The Yankees haven't been winning a lot lately. The ten game lead they had is all gone and if they don't get on their horses soon, the playoffs may begin without them.

And you'd think that my entire existence was based on whether or not the 27-Time World Champion Greatest Sports Franchise in the History of the World won or lost on any given day.

I must tell you:

I'm okay.

I will survive a playoff-less season if that is what happens.

I have been cranky during the games lately as I can't understand how an entire team can stop hitting at once, but it's just baseball.

It's an amusing distraction from life.

I've always got that. Even when the 27-Time World Champion Greatest Sports Franchise in the History of the World were winning every day earlier in the season.

"Do you feel a sense of panic?" A reporter asked Jeter yesterday.

"How do you deal with panic?" Jeter shot right back at her. "I mean, really, what would be the answer to panic?"

"I'm not sure," she said. "How would you deal with it?"

"I don't panic," he said.

I had to laugh at that.

Panic?

Derek Jeter?

He has five rings, a couple of mansions, supermodel women (who aren't no Kathy Fazzolari) but I imagine that he's making do.

Winning isn't easy. The 27-Time World Champion Greatest Sports Franchise in the History of the World have always had their way with their opponents but now the rest of baseball has the benefit of splitting the money the Yankees make for the sport.

If they win they will have to earn it.

If they lose, they will have earned that as well.

That's how life works.

No one said it'd be easy.

But why panic?

My Buddy, Dave

Way back in 1997, I started working with a steel erection company out of Syracuse. I was coming straight from a long stint with a steel erector here in Buffalo so I knew my stuff when it came to steel erection safety rules. On day one, I met with the safety director and he was just getting started as a safety guy, but man, he certainly cared about the guys he worked with. Dave was a good man from the start. He’d say things like: “You’re so full of beans.” Just a down to earth, hardworking guy who became a fast friend. We drove all around New York State setting up jobs. Mom & Ollie

 Ollie Stadium is a mess. The heavy rains rendered the backyard a mud pit and even though we threw in the side yard, the Big O was looking for more, and we were both covered in mud. I had to take some steam out of him somehow so I suggested we go visit Grandma. Ollie hates the car, but he laid quietly as we made the trip. We even brought the football because there is plenty of room to play at Grandma’s. Mom opened the door and started laughing. I thought about the love she had for every single dog we ever had. Oliver was quick to give my Mom a kiss, and then he stood beside her. The love between Mom and Dogs is a mutual bond. Through the years, Mom would make breakfast for the dogs.  Fried eggs, toast, bacon… She would wrap Christmas gifts for them. “To Jeter, Love Santa,” she would write on the cards. They played with the big chicken that made a lot of noise. Mom tossed the football and Ollie brought it back to her. As the visit drew to a close I headed for the door.  “C’mon, Oliver,”
