Mental Health Day

Don't you hate when the car starts to get filthy?

I spend a lot of time in my car so when the dirt piles up on the floor and there's dirt all around I start to get antsy. I planned on cleaning it a number of times over the last few weeks. After finishing up a heavy work schedule I decided that I needed a mental health day of sorts.

I headed to the car wash.

Why the hell, after putting people on the moon, and finding everything you need on your phone at the click of a few buttons, can't we find a change machine that doesn't spit the dollar bill back at you 11 freaking times before it gives you four quarters?

"Come on!" I screamed.

It took seven attempts.

I took the plastic mats out of the car and hung them on the hook. I headed to the control panel.

OUT OF ORDER!

Mats back in the car.

Cleaned things up.

Went to the vacuum. Put in a dollar for 4 minutes. I needed 6 minutes. I wasn't going back to the change machine.

GOOD ENOUGH.

I headed home and grabbed my checkbook and 3 letters that I had to mail. I also grabbed the laundry. Might as well finish that and then pay for the taxes.

Grabbed the dogs, loaded them into the car and then headed back into the house looking for the letters and the checkbook.

Not upstairs. Not downstairs.

WHAT'S UP?

NO!!!!!!

I stopped the wash cycle.

Little bits of paper drifted to the ground. My 3 letters.

The checkbook was soaked.

Headed up to check out the spot where I kept the extra checks.

NONE LEFT!

Called to order new checks.

I got automated response service.

God! I feel great!

It pays to take a day off to clear the mind, doesn't it?

Mr. Fazzolari....I have been reading your blog for a few years now, but never commented....but today.....holy crap! Thanks for the laughter to get my day started. And yes, those dang 'mental' days always leave us feeling better, don't they? Keeup up the good work!

My Buddy, Dave

Way back in 1997, I started working with a steel erection company out of Syracuse. I was coming straight from a long stint with a steel erector here in Buffalo so I knew my stuff when it came to steel erection safety rules. On day one, I met with the safety director and he was just getting started as a safety guy, but man, he certainly cared about the guys he worked with. Dave was a good man from the start. Mom & Ollie

 Ollie Stadium is a mess. The heavy rains rendered the backyard a mud pit and even though we threw in the side yard, the Big O was looking for more, and we were both covered in mud. I had to take some steam out of him somehow so I suggested we go visit Grandma. Ollie hates the car, but he laid quietly as we made the trip. We even brought the football because there is plenty of room to play at Grandma’s. Mom opened the door and started laughing. I thought about the love she had for every single dog we ever had. Oliver was quick to give my Mom a kiss, and then he stood beside her. The love between Mom and Dogs is a mutual bond. Through the years, Mom would make breakfast for the dogs.  Fried eggs, toast, bacon… She would wrap Christmas gifts for them. “To Jeter, Love Santa,” she would write on the cards.
