November Golf
I was a tad skeptical on Friday night after checking the morning temperatures.
“It’s going to be 39 degrees when you tee off,” Kathy said.
“Ah well, tough week,” I said. “I’ll still be outside with a golf club in my hand.”
The sun was bright!
My car was showing me that the outside temp was 45. I had a hoodie and Yankees sweatpants on.
The parking lot was empty. JC already had his clubs on the cart, and an orange Gatorade in the cup holder.
“We’re ready to go,” he said.
Five minutes later, I was at my ball in the middle of the fairway, exactly where I’d hit it.
And we played the entire round in just two and a half hours.
There was zero wind. The course was dry. The ball bounced and moved through the air as though it were the middle of June.
I had a half-dozen pars, missed some easy putts and hit a few lousy shots too.
On 18, I had a gimme putt for a par and I mentioned that it might be a good way to end the year.
“Weather looks better next week,” John said.
We made another tee time for next week.
Maybe it will all work out…
…golfing in Buffalo…
…in freaking November!
