Happy Thanksgiving

I have a 16-pound turkey for 5 of us.

Stuffing, potatoes, rolls, veggies, shrimp…

…pies and I’m sure the boys will watch football…

Thing is, I never sweat cooking on Thanksgiving because Turkey is Kathy’s favorite and I make this dinner a half-dozen times a year.

I’m kind of excited for the 4 straight days off.

It was one of those short weeks where way too much garbage was going on all at once.

This year seems different somehow as there’s a lot of talk about in-fighting in families because of politics.

Not the America we’ve had for much of my life…

…feels different as we wait to see what the hell happens.

I’ve spent 3 weeks listening to Rock & Roll.

Tom Petty has emerged this week as I found some of his songs that I always loved but haven’t heard in a while.

Music is my time capsule and listening to a song by James McMurtry from 1987 had me thinking about being 22 years old and trying to chase down life.

Time passes.

We will probably end up all right, but you know what I hate most about this time period?

The lost innocence of what it felt like to be united in the belief that no matter what;

Americans were Americans and we were in the fight together.

Families on opposite ends of a bitter struggle doesn’t quite feel right this Thanksgiving Day.

We learned that the first Thanksgiving meal was a great meeting between two very distinct groups of people.

All this time has passed and we seem to be sitting down with people we have always loved, but now find confusing.

Because we were pitted against one another in a grand scheme.

Forget all that.

Find what you’re thankful for, and put on some Tom Petty, or whatever allows you to slip back in time to a more innocent day.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

Kiss the cook.
