I Guess I’m Old
Junior Caminero finally hit a homer for the Rays in Game 6 versus Cleveland.
He’s a good player.
He had 42 homers this year, but he wasn’t doing much in the playoffs until he finally connected.
And then he started to round the bases.
Took him more than 30 seconds to make the trip because he stopped halfway to first so he could beat on his chest. He had also flipped his bat about 30’ in the air.
Between second and third he slowed so he could point to three of four different sections.
Between 2nd and 3rd he cupped his ear as if he couldn’t hear the adoring crowd.
Then he started spinning and pointing up as he tapped his heart.
Yeah.
I’m old.
I thought he looked like an ass.
I’m sure the guy he hit the homer off of wasn’t overly thrilled.
Paul O’Neill had my favorite all-time homerun trot. He used to drop his head, and hustle his way around the bases.
It was almost as if he were embarrassed for having hit it.
Now, of course, the young baseball fan says stupid shit like:
“Baseball is boring. Bat flips and long home-run trots are exciting.”
I didn’t much care for the Yankees relaxing their facial hair policy either.
Play the game.
Respect the game.
Act like you’ve been there before.
Yeah.
Get off my lawn.
