Compassion
It’s a tiny little village but as like every other place in America there is a Dollar General.
I swung in for a few things for Ollie and the Camp Clifford campers - I had a solid half hour before my meeting, which was just five minutes away.
I was in and out of the store quickly, but unbeknownst to me an elderly woman had a medical emergency on the sidewalk leading to the store.
I spotted her, being loaded onto a stretcher. She was alert, which seemed like good news. She also had about 4 paramedics around her - they arrived in two vans that were strategically pulled close to the door…
…blocking 5 cars - including mine.
I got out of the way, tossed my bag into the car and watched the paramedics go to work.
A few minutes later, a man about my age, stepped out the door.
“Oh what the f*ck?” The man yelled.
He pointed at his blocked in vehicle, and then looked in my direction.
“Why did they block us all in?” He screamed.
I wasn’t looking at him, but I think he was screaming for my benefit.
The paramedics didn’t even glance his way.
“They could’ve parked anywhere. Instead, they have to block everyone in because someone feinted?”
I wondered what that guy might think of that were his mother on the stretcher and someone else was making a scene.
Two of the paramedics were loading the woman into one of the vans. The other two were just standing there.
“Maybe one of you two heroes could move the other van,” Mr. Personality said.
I was thrilled that they were ignoring the dope.
“HELLO!” The guy yelled out.
That almost made me laugh.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” a young man (looked about 12 to me) said. “Is your car blocked in?”
That did make me laugh.
The idiot turned on me.
“Why is it funny? I have a meeting! You’re blocked in too. Aren’t you pissed?”
I had a whole bunch of answers ready to go…
…decided against using any of them.
The paramedic got into the van that was blocking us and pulled ahead.
I waved at the guy.
“F*ck you!” He yelled at me.
Compassionate dude there.
