People Are Disappointing
I’m not quite sure how old I was - perhaps 17 or 18 years old - when my Dad dropped this gem on me:
“95% of the people you meet are self-serving assholes who’d screw you over for a nickel.”
I remember laughing, and mentioning how cynical he sounded.
Turns out, from the vantage point of 62 years old, I’m wondering if he was a bit low with his estimate.
From a political standpoint - forget it - they lie, cheat, steal as they breathe.
The commotion over the political ad is another example of there being no bottom.
We now have miserable behavior as our guide.
Yelling “Quiet, piggy” at reporters. Calling people stupid.
It is very juvenile, but it is not unimportant.
How we are treating one another now - generally speaking - is despicable.
This past week there was a question on a business deal, and through email exchanges it dawned on me that the person I was dealing with was straight up lying.
I knew it to be true because I had an email exchange from months before that told the story.
“You never told me about it!”
Resulted in me sending a copy of the old correspondence.
Then there wasn’t a response.
And I was simply disappointed.
Thought of what Dad told me all those years ago,
And I know that I’m not supposed to care and that I’m supposed to treat others like pure garbage in an effort to get ahead.
I guess I should have added:
“Quiet, piggy,” to the response.
