Baseball Season Update

I like this Yankees team…

…which is a strange thing to say because they haven’t played well, but the season isn’t over.

Once again, they haven’t played well had a lot of injuries. They lost 3 starting pitchers for most of the year.

Judge was the run-away MVP but he tweaked his shoulder and has been merely mortal lately.

Stanton has been great, but his season didn’t start until June.

So, I’m not sure what to think, but they have good lineup balance and a bullpen of good arms who have pitched poorly.

As for the rest of the majors?

Philly looks like the team to beat at this point. The Dodgers for all the money they spent (more than $100 million more than any other team) wouldn’t be favored in a series against the Phillies.

And now, Ohtani - whose bookie is in jail for betting more than a million dollars of Ohtani’s money - evidently also has a realtor who steals money.

The league will protect Ohtani at all costs because he is a good player.

It’s no different than the NFL excusing domestic violence.

Baseball held the line on Pete Rose and Wander Franco (who was a very good shortstop for the Rays) won’t ever see the field again because he ‘dated’ a 13-year old.

But Ohtani will get the free pass that’s afforded most rich bastards.

As for the sport itself, I’m now officially the old guy who yells at the television:

“Move the runner over!”

“Doesn’t anyone know how to lay down a bunt?”

“Jeter would never!”

And of course, when the Yankees struggle, I hear it from every corner of the world and I probably deserve it…

…but I always answer this way:

“I’ve watched and celebrated 7 championships in my baseball lifetime, and I have a room filled with plaques that I can go look at anytime.”

That usually gets me a:

‘Stop living in the past!’ response.

But I answer:

“I have a Bills room too. The walls are empty.”
