Getting Through the Day

It’s certainly a very weird time to be an American.

Every day there’s another story of absolute stupidity that brings division.

I’ve listened to Springsteen about every day since 1975 and I’m frantically skipping the story about the MAGA fans going after Bruce and his true words about what’s going on.

I’ve been asked by Republicans and Democrats alike what I think.

“He shouldn’t be talking bad about America,” a Shitler fan mentioned.

“Seriously? How many times have you heard something disparaging about America from the dear leader? He trashes everything about the country, every day.”

And as I’ve said, I’ve been skipping the political stories, but I also got a text from a long-time friend who I hadn’t heard from in quite a while.”

“This is scary. How does it end? Will the Democracy really crash and burn?”

It’s a sad question and one that most of us shouldn’t have to worry about as we try to get through the day. I tried to say that I didn’t have a clue about how it would all play out, but this person mentioned that my opinion meant something to them.

Reassurance?

Comfort?

I couldn’t offer any of that.

“I’m really concerned that this will ultimately end in bloodshed. Americans killing Americans.”

I sincerely hope not, but the fact that Springsteen is being attacked, that the leader is sending out,’Taylor Swift is no longer ‘hot’ posts’…

…doesn’t seem to be all that encouraging.

The economy is tanking.

Culture wars are all the rage, and the flames are being fanned by an administration that is taking a hatchet to all that we once accepted as our standards in human decency.

How else would it possibly end?

The lies and the defiance will continue and eventually those of us who still believe in the American way of life will take a stand to try and stop the destruction.

And I can’t see it ending well.

But then again, I’m just trying to get through rhe day.

And the one after that.

And the one after that.
