Barefoot & Pregnant
Chiefs kicker, Harrison Butker made a speech at a Christian school where he spoke about women and what he believes their lives should be like.
The comments were about how women who chase a career instead of being a wife and a mother are missing out.
It’s the kind of statement that infuriates people because he was trying to talk down a bit to people who choose a different path.
I never truly understand what a guy like this is trying to accomplish.
Not every woman wants to stay home and serve a man, or raise children.
Some women, believe it or not, find peace in living a life that is not centered around taking care of their field-goal kicking husband.
Now, Butker got all choked up as he was talking about it, and good for him, he seems happy with his situation…
…he could even go as far as saying…
…this is what worked best for us.
Where he went astray is in his proclamation that women have been lied to and are dead-ass wrong if they live a life that doesn’t mirror his.
I’ve learned one thing in 27 years of marriage…
…if I want trouble all I have to do is tell my wife what to do…
…or how to live her life.
We’ve heard a lot of talk these past few years about how we need to go back to an America that once was.
Make no mistake, there are men out there who believe that women should be barefoot and pregnant and there to serve them.
Here’s the imagined scenario:
The man returns home after a day at the office.
His wife, dressed in a gown and heels, wearing an apron, greets him at the door with a kiss and a smile, and asks:
“How was your day, dear?”
She then leads him, by the hand, into the kitchen, and sets a hot meal in front of him as she uncaps his beer.
She waits for him to decompress, being careful not to ask too many questions because he may have had a hard day and he might need a moment to unwind.
If he speaks to her she will respond, with a smile on her face.
I’ve read Butker’s statement, and listened to his speech a couple of times, and while trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, it appears that he was doing his damndest in lecturing all women everywhere.
He seemed to imply that if you aren’t going all in on being a wife and a mother first, you’re screwing up your life in the eyes of God and white, Christian men everywhere.
He’s taking plenty of heat.
I don’t much care that he expressed his opinion…
…in fact, I respect the fact that he’s living the life he wants to live.
He seems happy and he’s made it clear that he’s told his wife to be happy.
Now if he were tolerant enough to let others live their lives the way they see fit…
…America would be great again.
