Impromptu Break

The howling winds resulted in bitter cold temperatures.

Coming the morning after a 55 degree day in December…

…I got dressed for job sites.

Thought about never taking a day, and decided that I could still do some work without clomping through mud as the wind hit me in the freaking face and froze my ample forehead.

I got a mug of coffee and went up to the computer with Miller in tow.

Thought about Christmas and some things we needed around the homestead.

Headed to BJ’s to look around. I even wondered, “What am I doing here?”

Bought some Christmas presents for Mom and a few others. Sat in a massage chair, and considered buying it.

It comes in a huge box.

“Who’s putting that together?” I wondered, as I passed up buying it.

Meandered home and put away what I bought, and took a slow ride to have lunch with a couple of other safety guys that I’ve known for 30+ years.

We had a lot of laughs about days gone by, and tacos from an authentic Mexican place.

That’s when the wind really kicked up. Right as I stopped for gas.

“Why do we live here!” I screamed at the pumps and the guy across the lot laughed.

That sealed the deal. I would not be climbing a ladder today.

Answered a few emails, and cleaned up a bit.

Bagged it.

And then, around 4:00 a client reached out, and just kept hammering away, looking for answers and a commitment.

The guy wanted me to take a ride out!

“I’ll be there on Monday morning,” I said.

“Not sure if that will be soon enough,” he said.

“Dude, it’s 4:45 on a Friday. I’m all done.”

Turns out Monday will work.

Christmas week is such a weird dilemma.

The outside world is still calling, but the mind is half out the door.

“That sounds like a 2026 problem to me,” one guy said a couple of days ago, and I laughed.

We all need a break from time to time.

It’s better to take an unscheduled one every now and again.

I didn’t even look at the news so if there were atrocities I didn’t see them.

I can check those tomorrow.

I was relaxed all day.
