This Is Serious Heat!

I spend my days outside, which is one of the things I absolutely love about my job.

I also have friends at each site, and there are thousands who know my name even though I don’t know theirs.

I told Kathy that she’s going to have to rent an arena when I go.

I thought I was going yesterday afternoon!

It was above 90 degrees all day. I climbed at least 8 ladders and went on a couple of scaffolds that were way up there, but it’s important for me to go on days when the weather is extreme to show my guys that I’m not sitting in a cool office as they tear off a roof.

A major part of my shtick these days is to beat home the point about heat stress and how they have to stay hydrated.

I do blast the air in my car from one job to the next, but I also felt a little uncomfortable all day.

It’s a serious heat wave!

I got home and put dinner together - nothing major - but we did have Bowman’s sweet corn - which is ridiculously great.

Then, as usual, Ollie and I hit the backyard for football.

I threw a few passes and I felt horrible.

Nauseous.

A little dizzy.

We cut the game short - and I swear if Ollie could talk he might’ve said:

“Dude, you need to get some rest!”

He was that comforting.

I headed straight for the slop sink in the basement where I promptly ended my 25-year streak of not having thrown up (that was a Seinfeld episode).

Suffice it to say that I was down for the count.

“Feeling better?” Kathy asked around 9:00.

“Not really.”

“Maybe you should stay out of the sun tomorrow.”

I ignored that sound advice.

Got to my car at 6:30 this morning.

It was already pushing 80 degrees.

I love the sun.

Heat has never bothered me…

…until yesterday!

Stay hydrated!!

P.S. - felt much better today and Ollie was waiting with the football. He cares, but I’m not getting two days off!
