“Good Morning”

Buffalo is a friendly place.

Yet, lately, I’ve found it troubling that people don’t seem to be quite as friendly as they used to be.

Maybe it’s a small sample size, but I was walking on a city street and there was a middle-aged woman coming the other way on a quiet sidewalk.

As we passed I said, “Good morning.”

She didn’t respond!

Which is a tad irritating.

“I’m fine and you?” I asked.

She kept walking.

Whatever.

Perhaps she was having a bad day.

Thankfully there was a man heading towards me.

“Good morning,” I said.

NOTHING!

‘Maybe it’s me,’ I thought, but it kind of stuck with me all day long.

Were people nicer years ago?

Are we all afraid of one another now?

Not quite sure…

…but I’m never going to be too busy to say ‘good morning’ to someone who passes me by.

Maybe I stink.
