New Year’s Eve Celebrations

In my younger years I’d spend New Year’s Eve at the Aud watching the Sabres in a tux and pucks outing.

Or we’d hang with friends at their home or ours.

We laughed last night because as the snow fell during the early afternoon we thought about the party we had here back in 2003 or 2004.

Kathy was out getting the beer, and Jeff and I were waiting for her.

It was REALLY snowing.

The car broke down.

We headed out on a rescue mission to find Kathy walking down Lake Avenue, carrying two 18-packs of beer.

“Oh, you gotta’ keep her,” Jeff said when we saw her.

How things have changed!

I made sure we had plenty of food for the dinner. I bought a whole bunch of fancy dishes for three of us.

By 7:30, I was wondering if I was going to make it to 10:00, let alone midnight.

We have three boys.

I was more concerned about their activities.

“None of them are even going out tonight,” Kathy said.

So, the New Year’s celebration has evolved into a whole lot of nothing.

We didn’t pop any corks.

Two 18-packs of beer would last 10 years around here these days.

And the worst part…

…I still felt a little hungover when I woke up because I got old!
