Place Your Bets!

Two pitchers from the Cleveland Guardians were suspended in July for suspicion of betting on themselves.

Clause and Ortiz would place bets, or have their friends place bets, on a single pitch!

It seems (and I’m not a part of any of the betting groups) that one can place a bet on something as simple as a single pitch.

It is alleged that this is what these guys were doing.

They place a bet that the first pitch they’re going to throw is a ball, and then come into a game and bounce it.

Easy $5 grand, right?

Las Vegas has people watching!

Why would there be huge bets placed on such a thing?

Would you bet $5 grand that a pitch was going to be a ball?

Me neither.

Only way I’d do it is if I were the guy throwing said pitch!

And that’s how easy and stupid as it was.

It worked once, and they allegedly got addicted to winning their bet and kept doing it.

It’s also a way to get fast cash for your friends.

But here’s the thing:

Clause was making more than $10 million a year.

Ortiz’ salary was also north of a million a year.

Highly paid individuals because they have a unique talent.

And now…

…they are facing a long prison term.

They should have maybe pulled an Ohtani and blamed it on their interpreter, but it seems to be too late.

Basketball, football, baseball, hockey….

…they’ve all been hit with this scandal.

Pretty dumb.

Neither man will ever throw another pitch in a major league game.

Know what’s even worse?

Someone else will try it.

Soon enough.
