There’s No Such Thing As Truth

Artificial intelligence.

Social media.

Fabricated news stories.

Truth is done.

Now we all laughed at Kellyanne Conway, years ago, when she spoke about alternative facts.

I don’t talk politics with unfamiliar people, but a guy straight up asked me about Charlie Kirk. I gave him a benign answer.

“There are too many unstable people with unfettered access to guns.”

“It’s those transgender m-fers,” he said. “They’re the ones shooting up everything.”

“The guy who shot Kirk wasn’t transgender,” I said.

“HE WAS!” He yelled.

“No, he was far right,” I said. “Wasn’t transgender.”

“That’s what I read,” he said. “A transgender, crazed libtard.”

(It was the exact reason why I never bring up politics to someone I don’t know).

“That’s not true,” I said. “Seriously, read a little more about him. You got some bad info.”

“We can agree to disagree,” he said.

(I should have let it go).

“We actually can’t agree to disagree on this one,” I said. “What you are thinking isn’t true. There’s not an ounce of fact in thinking he’s transgender. It’s not true.”

He smiled.

“Nothing is either true or false anymore,” he said. “We believe what we want.”

Alternative facts.

When the man who reports the news you want to hear, you take it as gospel truth.

If the report is not what you want to hear then it is ‘fake news’.

Since Conway made that statement back during the first term things have gotten a whole lot worse.

“Nothing is true or false anymore. We believe what we want to believe.”

That’s about it.

What a mess.
